Express yourself

For those of you who don't know, Express yourself is a weekly Meme hosted by Dani and Jackie. Each week we get a question to answer and this weeks question is...

What's a musical or play you've viewed?

When I was younger my older sister treated my mum and I to a joint birthday gift, in which we went to the theatre and saw West Side Story. I'd never been to anything that was a live performance like that before and have not been to anything like it since either. Which is a shame as I really enjoyed it. Living in the middle of nowhere means that you have to go a pretty long way for shows like that. For us I think Plymouth or Exeter would be nearest and there over an hour away. Plus with hubby needing to drive us and musicals not really being his cup of tea. It just wouldn't be fair on him.

I loved seeing West Side Story; however, and it is an experience that will remain with me for the rest of my life.

How about your? Have you been to see any musicals and plays? Perhaps you have seen lots, if so which was your favourite? Leave a comment and let me know.

  1. I'm fortunate that I've seen several musicals and plays - including a one act play in Plymouth, written by a friend. A live performance is very different from the experience of watching a film or the TV, isn't it?

    1. Oh absolutely. I would love to see more, but it's such a long way to go and hubby not being a fan I am not sure he'd enjoy it to much :)

  2. Me and my 3 best buddies went into Prince George (hour by car) and saw Cats. It was fabulous! I loved it. So much so that the following spring we went back and saw Lord of the Dance. Thanks for visiting my blog, Joss! Happy New Year.

  3. It's been quite a while since I've seen a live show, but I used to see quite a few. A favorite was magician Doug Henning's Broadway production The Magic Show. Saw it in 1976 as Henning's guest so that made it an extra special experience. Recently I dug out the out soundtrack album from the show and was reminded of how cool the music was. Don't know if anyone has performed that show other than Henning but it is a show that could be a tough one to do effectively unless whoever did it had some top quality illusions and a good magician to perform them.

Live stage productions are pretty great to see in person if well done. West Side Story is excellent--I have a DVD of the film version.

    1. Oh I loved West Side Story and at the time was adamant I would go and see more shows but it just never came to be. A magic show would be amazing and something my husband would enjoy too. So that may be a possibility for the future :)

  4. I teach drama so live theatre is a very big part of my life. West Side Story is, without a doubt in my mind, the best musical of them all.
